A mock petition by Lincoln and several of his friends in the state legislature to the wife of a colleague, requesting her to return to Springfield with a train of young ladies for the Christmas season. The "petition" is begun by Lincoln and finished by John J. Hardin, and signed by both of them, as well as John Dawson and E.B. ALS by Abraham Lincoln, 4 March 1862, on Executive Mansion stationery, "to whom it may concern"; endorsed with an ANS, no date, by Sen. Orville H. Browning to Mr. Newton; ALS by John G. Nicolay, 16 June 1862, on Executive Mansion stationery, to Capt. 8.	Hudgins, Prince L.	Papers relating to presidential pardon, 1865.	ALS by Hudgins to Rep. Austin A. King, 29 January, explaining his case and asking for help in securing a pardon. The letter bears autograph endorsements signed by King [s.d.], recommending a pardon; and by Abraham Lincoln, 28 February, directing that a pardon be made out. 9.	Seymour, Horatio, 1810-1886, recipient.	Petition and endorsement : Washington, D.C., 1863 Sept. 10.	An unsigned petition, asking Seymour to commission Sgt. Edward A. Platt. An autograph endorsement of the same date on the verso by Abraham Lincoln explains that Platt's friends had apparently wanted him to sign the petition, and although he cannot make such a request to a governor, he believes Platt is worthy. Mounted on the bottom of the page are a clipped ANS by John Hay, 12 April, requesting that the petition be sent to Lincoln, and a clipped ANS by Lincoln, 13 April, directing that the prisoner be released on taking the loyalty oath of 8 December 1863. Heard, who had been forced into the Confederate Army but whose family and friends were in Pennsylvania, be released from Fort Delaware prison.
